Support for Vulnerable Communities

The challenge was to produce a scratch-built online multimedia learning resource for vulnerable individuals with special educational needs or disabilities. The result, the 'Stay Safe' project, features professional advice from Essex Police and Fire Service among other safeguarding experts, and is live online at stay-safe.info and stay-safe.me .

The Stay Safe web development project was collectively imagined by community organisations aiming to safeguard vulnerable individuals, primarily people with learning disabilities.  A collaboration between Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions, Essex Police and the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership, they aimed to provide free professional advice alongside an online form-based system allowing customers to answer confidential questionnaires and produce their own instant Personal Action Plan.

The acclaimed social enterprise Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions approached me with a brief of creating a series of informative interview-based videos with supporting, easy-to-use online forms. Website-hosted content encourages customers to think about their vulnerabilities, make a personal action plan, and request specific support where needed. Retention of privacy and confidentiality were high-priority factors when designing the system.

After watching videos and completing six individual unit surveys, PDF documents are automatically generated by the Stay Safe website and securely emailed to the customer without being stored online.  These Personal Action Plans are then used to brief carers and individuals and track their safeguarding needs and progress.

All work was created using the Adobe Creative Suite.  The finished package included a series of six professional interview videos, character animations, custom copywriting, survey development, icon and branding design, and a unique WordPress development with secure UI and form submission integrations.

Stay Safe is a free resource available to all vulnerable groups.
